Planning for the Unplanned

Most of the time, birth happens as planned. Sometimes, birth can take unexpected turns. Learning about these possible, unplanned experiences before birth can help you make informed decisions if they happen. Your team is trained to help and support you in these situations. This module aims to help you feel confident by covering birth situations like going over your due date, Cesarean birth (C-section), preterm labour, induction, and assisted vaginal birth, as well as preparing you for less common emergencies.

This platform is designed for pregnant individuals, their partners or supports, and perinatal health care professionals in British Columbia.

Our resources are aligned with trusted materials like the Perinatal and Newborn Health HUB, Baby’s Best Chance, and HealthLink BC, and are developed using the best available knowledge at the time of publication. Content is created and reviewed by subject matter experts, an interdisciplinary health care team, and PSBC’s Community Advisory Committee, including parent partners, to ensure accuracy and relevance.
